Normally, the river of destiny can be diverted, but it eventually returns to its course. Sometimes, however, the mere flutter of a butterfly's wings can alter its course entirely. When Harry does not learn about the existence of the Hogwarts houses before the Sorting, his fate, and that of the wizarding world, is irrevocably changed.
