This is a tale of three - of three people who are heroes, yes, but more importantly, of three people who are profoundly human. (For Ollivander's Challenge; trio-centric, canon pairings.)
Twenty-four snapshots of Ron and Hermione's life together, written based on prompts from readers. "S'pose we've made it, haven't we?" Ron remarked. "After thirty years?" Hermione's eyes twinkled, shining even in the poor excuse for lighting in the hallway of the hospital. "Oh, no, darling, I intend to get another fifty out of you yet."
"'You act like there's simply no cure for the darkness that's spread throughout your broken soul,' she continues, rolling her eyes as she turns on her heel and begins to walk toward him. 'It's quite pathetic, if you ask me.' 'I didn't,' he points out, crossing his arms in defiance." Astoria talks to Draco. He might even listen.
"I never really expected to survive. It's not like that made the walk through the forest any easier, mind, but I just…I never thought I'd be here for the aftermath." Harry has an argument with Ginny, and Hermione offers some insight. Harry and Hermione friendship fic with lots of Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny thrown in for good measure.
James Potter, Lily Evans, and a moment of relative peace. Because no one can deny that there's a war going on, and the choices they make have the power to change everything.
"It is the light she finds here, Hermione knows, that ultimately keeps the darkness at bay." A touch of angst, a couple of laughs, a pint of comfort, and a dash of hope meet the fluffy mix that is Ron, Hermione, nightmares, birthdays, and Hawaii.
"They were not perfect, but that was why they were indestructible. When they vowed to love each other for better or for worse, they knew that they could do it because they already had, since the age of eleven." Ron asks a question, but he already knows the answer - and so do we. It was decided long ago. A direct response to the recent controversy.
"So perhaps, both the good things and the bad things that had happened to her were exactly what she'd needed. Life wasn't like a fairy tale, and she couldn't expect things to simply fall into place because she was ready for them to." Lavender Brown finds her way to her very own happy ending.
Ron and Hermione are ready to take the next step in their life together, but not everyone is as thrilled as they are. While Hermione's family is struggling to adapt to the new developments, tensions rise as old threats are revisited. Somewhere amidst the chaos, Ron and Hermione learn just what their decision means as well as just how much they can overcome together.
Hermione Weasley shares her twenty-sixth birthday with somebody very special. A sequel of sorts to "Birthdays, Gifts, and Domestic Bliss," but can stand alone.
"Before he began to dream, Ron took a mental note of yet another beautiful moment in a life he still wasn't entirely sure he deserved. To some, it may be ordinary; but to him, it was perfect." A collection of family-oriented moments in the lives of the Ron and Hermione Weasley.
"The mouth is made for communication, and nothing is more articulate than a kiss."― Jarod Kintz. Eight snapshots of the thousands of kisses shared between Ron and Hermione.
"Sweat almost suited him. She couldn't help but notice, as they worked tirelessly in his mother's garden, the way his shirtless chest glistened, slightly pink from the sun's rays. The effect of it almost seemed to accentuate each of his actions; or maybe, that was just a result of her own fascination with the way his body moved."
In the aftermath of the war, Ron feels as though he's been tossed into the middle of an ocean, and he's trying desperately not to sink. As he searches for some sort of stability in the madness surrounding himself and everyone he holds most dear, Ron learns the value of having something - or someone - to hold onto in the meantime.
It was the best thing that had ever happened to them, but it had by no means been easy. Nine months after becoming Rose's mummy and daddy, Ron and Hermione go away for a weekend to reconnect in a familiar place.
"But the more he thought about it, the more he realized that he'd always thought it'd be Layla, somewhere down the line. Well, he hadn't always thought it outright, but subconsciously…yeah, it had been her almost as long as he'd known her. That's why he hadn't kissed her, after all. He'd wanted her to be around longer than one night." Originally written for Ollivander's Challenge.
"Before he could dwell on it, he cautiously captured her hand with his own and interlocked their fingers. He could have imagined the way her eyes lit up as she squeezed his hand lightly, but Ron didn't really care - he was simply happy she allowed him to hold her hand at all." A Shell Cottage outtake.
The war is over, but nothing is how it should be - not yet, anyway. Harry and Ginny have an important conversation and take the first steps toward making things right.
On 2 May 1998, Hermione Granger kissed Ron Weasley. On 21 June 2003, Ron Weasley married Hermione Granger. This is the story of the five years in between and of the firsts and lasts that made it all possible.
Ron spends the night before his wedding reading some important words from his bride-to-be. A companion piece to the nineteenth chapter of Firsts and Lasts, but can be read separately.
"They certainly ran in different crowds; but in the end, the fact remained that they both belonged to esteemed pureblooded families. When it came to matters of marriage, little else mattered." Narcissa Black and Lucius Malfoy during their seventh year. Written for Ollivander's Challenge.
The war wasn't really over, not even seven years later. Just as happiness can be found in the darkest of times, darkness can seep in during the happiest of times. But in the end, hope can outweigh fear, if you've got enough to live for.
Sometimes, all you need is a few words from your brother to put things in perspective. Mentions of canon ships, especially R/Hr. Written for Ollivander's Challenge by simplypotterheads on Tumblr.
