In fourth year, when Ron PROVES to be a disloyal fair weather friend who doesn't deserve Harry's friendship by not standing by Harry 1000% after Harry's name comes out of the Goblet of Fire, a more mature Harry has enough maturity to have the backbone to NOT forgive the traitor or accept him back. Harry then builds stonger friendships as well as closer ties with the other champions

At the start of fifth year, Harry sits with Luna and Susan on the Hogwarts Express. When Ron and Hermione never turn up after the prefects meeting like they said they would, Harry cuts ties with them and Luna and Susan become his best friends. Having Susan and Luna as best friends leads to several different outcomes in fifth year.

While Harry and Hermione are away on the Horcrux Hunt, Luna, along with Neville and Ginny, reform the D.A. at Hogwarts. Eventually features Sally Anne Perks joining Neville, Ginny, and Luna to form a leadership quartet.
