The Weasleys and the Potters start to worry as Harry hasn't returned home after an Auror Mission. Set post-epilogue, James and Albus have returned from Hogwarts with Lily excited for her first year. Told through flashbacks, Ginny reminisces about times previously spent with Harry while, in the present, she starts to worry that something serious has happened to him.

Harry sets out on his first mission as a Junior Auror, but the group is attacked by an Alpha werewolf and Harry is badly hurt. Meanwhile, Hermione and the Weasleys are preparing for Ron and Hermione's upcoming wedding. But the news of Harry's attack and subsequent recovery could stunt their laid plans. The story moves between different points of view.

In the weeks following the battle, Harry experiences strange side effects; he has strange dreams, he has flashes of pain, and he is prone to fainting. But soon he realises that he can't feel pain. With questions rising about where their futures lie, Harry is keeping secrets and wondering whether or not he should be alive.
